~LIVES ON-LINE: THEREBY HANGS A TALE: FEBRUARY 2002~

February 7, 2002,8:00 p.m.

Do you think there are ordinary people? If so--- I diagree with you. I think we all have stories to tell. That there is nothing more deceptive than calling someone---"ordinary".

That we all have a tale we're living, and can tell it, if we want to...

Welcome to Lives On-Line: a sort of monthly ezine/weblog to the best journal entries out there for the past month.

I try to give preference to journals I haven't highlighted before; I try to find new journals. This month I didn't succeed as well as I liked---but was reminded why I return to some journals again and again....

All excellencies are the individual writers'. Any defiencies are mine, as "editor", for bringing them to your attention.

Humor:

Dancing, mustache wax and missionary positions of a different sort from "A Man, a Mission" from EVAPORATION.

Numerous reasons for hating Chuck E. Cheese are given at "Don't Know What Color your Eyes Are, Baby" from HALE KILINAHE.

Humor is not for the squeamish: case in point is "Attention, Al in This Elevator: This Stuff Only Happens to Me" from EVERYDAY REBELLIONS.

A visit to the House of Geek from "In Which my Lap Gets Ignored" from the ever-delightful OUTFOXED.

"My Pants, My Pants, My Pants are on Fire" examines whether honesty is really the best policy. That's from the irresistibly-named INCREASINGLY INSANE.

 Drama:

First snow of the season, a death in winter: INSOMNIAVILLE talks of both in "I Waited Too Long to Write This".

Some dramatic events are purely joyful; such as in "Witholding Information" from BLOWING BUBBLES IN THE WIND. And it couldn't have happened to a nicer person...

Some are not: the reality of divorce can sometimes overwhelm one. Read "staring at abyss" from HULAMOONS.

Ominous skies, $1.45 million, and a murder....in "Ominous skies" uneasiness is raised to a new level. That's by AIYAH.

 Slice-of-Life:

The vulnerability and mystery of the night is explored in "In the Still of the Night" by EMET: A JOURNAL.

Dreams and Cashmere....both are found in "Holy Goats Redux", an example of the sensitivity that is WILLA.

"Sushi, Anyone?" tries to dissect her fascination/repulsion with raw fish sliced and rolled in seaweed...and her own fascination/repulsion with....herself. That's from ARE WE THERE YET?

A CAT BY ANY OTHER NAME talks touchingly of the unbelievability of life...of how sometimes we get lucky, and it seems unreal, false, something to be constantly reassured of...that it's "True".

Mischellaneous:

"Turn on the Waterworks" by Krista of THIS IS HOW I FEEL expresses a moment of joy---though tears.

A thoughtful look at how things have changed---not necessarily for the better---in "A Sense of Belonging" from THE CORRIDORS OF MY SOUL.

A gradual, time-release epiphany: "silver burst morning and she breathes before moving" about that special time in every one's life, when they feel handsome or beautiful---and can almost believe it. That's from HULAMOONS.

That's enough for now. We've listened to enough tales for now. Yet next month, we'll hang out some more tales.... for you to enjoy.
