~IN LIMBO~

January 22, 2002,8:00 p.m.

Well, let's see now. I have a new page for MINDMISTRESS but the server's down while they do some updates.

It's snowing tonight, and it's problematical whether I'll be able to get in tomorrow...

I'm working on a fictional geneaology of Dinah Drake, the first Black Canary, but have found a sticking point on the family tree that I have to resolve...

What fun!

I have four personal days worth of vacation left. I may just use those.

This is very typical of me. I set personal goals for myself to have such-and-such done by a certain time, but can't get to it...

I feel like I'm lost in Limbo, and unable to climb out. Does anyone else ever feel that way...?

A dozen projects to work on, but nothing to do, nowhere to go...hinderences everywhere.

A project and a life on hold.

The worst part is, I'm usually much more impatient than my readers or my customers. I pride myself about getting things done quickly and easily.

And usually do.

I get frustrated when weather gets in the way, or writer's block, or whatever, or just a lack of imagination...

Even foreign policy seems on hold. We are poised to attack Iraq...I'm still not sure why...but many of our major allies are demurring, thank goodness.

It's going to look awfully silly if the UK and the USA are the only ones to invade Iraq...hopefully, so silly that it may never happen.

Maybe the military build-up around Iraq will remain a gigantic bluff, hoping to motivate the dissidents to move, no more.

Maybe being in Limbo isn't a bad thing. Maybe it's better than the metaphorical thing that war is...hell.

So I huddle, and stay home...Barb and Brian got home from church, driving at twenty miles per hour in slow traffic and snow falling, and just barely making it up the hill leading to our apartments.

The end of the world began with a winter that would not end, that lasted for years. The Fimbulwinter.

Brrrr.

Better not to think of it.
