Welcome to my first entry in my domain, NOVANOTES.COM, thanks to a generous person who I'm not sure wants to be identified. Wait, I just got an email--it's Suzy of FLY AWAY who's my benefactor. Thanks, Suzy!
I also note that I am "the best known journal Dad" according to this SUITE 101 article, and that I've written about everything under the sun---so I might as well give the spotlight, tonight, to what others have written.
Lastly, welcome to Reality PC---otherwise known as on-line Journalling. Welcome to Lives On-Line. As some of you, known, this is a monthly ezine/weblog that links to the most interesting journal entries of the past month, arranged by subject or tone. I usually give preference to journals I haven't linked to before. I only halfway succeeded this month, at least half being journals I have linked to before...but had to return to, because of the excellence of their entries.
All excellencies are in the individual authors' writing. All deficiencies belong to me, as an editor, for having selected them. Yet I think you'll enjoy most of these...
I certainly did.
Humor:
"Who's the Fat Pretty Chick Who's a Hit with All the Hicks? Weetabix---Damn Right"---in which we encounter feminine legs hanging out the window of a car and friends in low places. That's from DUMBER THAN A BOX OF ROCKS.
BLAHTHINGS talks about "Baltimore and 'the Flusher King'" and public toilets that automatically flush.
Read "The Amazing Man-Boy" and a hilarious look at the evil way her mother-in-law raised her husband-to-be to be totally helpless at some things by himself. (I'd show it to Barb, except that I'm afraid she might see a certain resemblence to another male she knows...) That's from TANGLED UP IN BLUE.
Why she can never fall for the cute guard, in "More Than You Need To Know" from THE NET DIVA. Some things do spoil the sweet mystery that is romance...
Drama:
The Andrea Yates story---the woman who drowned her five kids--- is examined in uncompromising terms in "Four Minutes to Live". My own inclinations are to sympathize with an obviously disturbed woman, but after reading this, I'm no longer as sure as I was. That's from HEADSPACE.
To be fair, and it's an excellent entry besides, the other side of post-partum psychosis is given in the June 26th entry of MORE THAN THIS.
The "Execution Collection" not only has one well-reasoned view on the death of Timothy McVeigh, and the death penalty in general, but links to a dozen other views, both pro and con, of the execution. That's from PUPPY VAUGHN.
Do you apologize for the past or try to get past it? That's the theme, discussing Australia and the relationship to the aboriginal people, in "Irreconcilable" from THE WHISPER GALLERY. To an American reading it, there are echoes of other discussions in our past....
"On the State of Being Married" reflects the amazement of finding---and keeping, despite all the day to day irritations that happen---the right person. If you don't think that's drama, read it. That's from NOTES TO MYSELF.
Slice-of-life:
Ever left a place you've lived for years? Leaving Dallas is the theme in "Hard Way to Go". That's from HATE YOUR DADDY.
Read "Taking Flight"---partings, even temporary ones, are hard to take. That's from A CAT BY ANY OTHER NAME.
Sometimes things really do alter your life....forever. Read "The Day My Life Changed" from PUPPY VAUGHN.
"Cycles" explores morning routines, convertible mornings, and loathing for children, screaming or otherwise. That's from the NET DIVA.
Miscellaneous: sex and signing off:
I always wondered what would happen if someone filled their on-line journal with their sexual fantasies. We all have them, after all, whether we admit it or not, even we "wellknown Journal fathers". They'd get a heckuva lot of readers, if---a big if--- they were well done, I suspect. Read what I think---emphasis on the unsureness---is a sexual fantasy in "Sexual Predator" from RUBYDRAGON and see if we have a winnah here...but not for the prudish or underage, okay? (And don't try to read it from work---your employer will come right behind you just then, I guarentee it.)
Nor could I ignore FUNNY THE WORLD's hilarious "Does Size Really Matter?" My favorite line? "I wonder if he can pick up peanuts with it." I'm still laughing. You'll see....
Now, to change the subject entirely...
Pamie, one of the funniest and most polished of the online journallers, quit...you can read her goodbye here. May we all leave with as much class and style.
Oddly enough, Sara Astruc of PERFECT WAY just made her goodeyes here. Antother leavetaking with class and style of a very valued journal.
However, I'm not ending mine---so please be with me next month for more lives--- worth sharing---on line.
