Today when I got home I was switching around the channels, and I saw Geraldo Rivera in Afghanistan, talking about how much in danger the reporters there were, and showing one of his bodyguards---an Afghan man with a rifle.
It may have been a self-projection, but it seemed like the man was a little embarassed, and was looking sidelong at Geraldo with a speculative look of Whatta maroon. This guy wants me to die for him? I don't think even American reporters have that much money...
Geraldo talked about his "extensive contacts in the Northern Alliance"---doubting the surrender of Kunduz reported by other media. As if he had been there eight years--- rather than two days.
Poor Geraldo. I hope he doesn't get into too much trouble there...
Honest.
Would I lie to you?
Meanwhile, an old lady dies of anthrax at home, and Dennis Leahy had a letter with enough anthrax in it to depopulate the Senate.
Anyone notice this is only being sent to Democrats and the liberal media?
So...it's someone who knows how to handle anthrax, but vastly overestimates how much to send...who targets liberal senators and the news media...
Spiro Agnew is dead, isn't he?
Maybe it's Rush Limbaugh...or J. Gordon Liddy, who broke the law once before in pursuit of his own idea of justice...
Seriously, though, that Conneticut link, although unfortunate for the lady, may help the case immensely. We now have two puzzling cases, that seem unrelated to the mails. Since the more singular something is, the more clues it offers, I would be looking for connections between people who travel to Tranton New Jersey...and this small Conneticut town.
Stuff like that might help us catch the murderer or murderers who's behind this. Given glimpses into the Al-Qaeda terror manual, I'm not so certain that it is a domestic nut.
On the other hand, why should Al-Qaeda only target liberal democrats and the news media?
Back in the States, things are better...
Barb's beginning to make preparations for Thanksgiving. She's cooking enough for a small army, which considering only she, myself, and Brian will be eating (Eric stuck in his own very limited cuisine) means we will be stuffing ourselves tomorrow---and the next day---and the next day....
We have no family in town (at least who would have us) so we cook for ourselves, and I personally am looking forward to a four-day weekend.
Boy am I looking forward to it!
Meanwhile, this Thanksgiving, Bin Ladin is travelling from place to place, always scared of ambush, always secure that his friends or son will kill him rather than let him be captured by the Americans...
Good.
Let him sweat.
Let him never rest.
Afghanistan, with the exception of Khandahar, seems to be broken of the Taliban's influence. Bin Ladin doubtless has many tricks left up his sleeve, but as usual, terrorism succeeds in spoiling its aims, rather than achieving them...
Now if we could just get Bush to stop calling the terrorists "The Evil Ones". It makes them sound like orcs or Dark Riders or something.
Remember that they're only human. Please. Don't build them up into some mythical status of larger-than-life villainy. If we do that, we're still just stoking their superiority complexes.
They have so little to feel superior about...
